It's all about the festival, the celebration, the life we lead as we move forward. I live to love German potato salad. Some days should only be about food and beer, pumpkin ice cream, and bratwursts with spicy mustard. So tip your stein to your friend, dig into the sauerkraut, put on your lederhosen, tap your clogs 3 times and say it... there's no place like home, there's no place like home, Es gibt keinen Ort wie zu Hause.

It's been 200 years since Bavaria's Crown Prince Ludwig celebrated his royal wedding with a big public bash that was such a hit it became an annual event, what we now know as "Oktoberfest." It's now considered an important part of Bavarian culture.

Munich's Oktoberfest is now in full swing through October 4th.

Traditionally the festival lasts 16 days, however this year it will be 17, in celebration of the 200th anniversary. The city has also set up a special area with Oktoberfest history as well as a beer tent serving a special brew, the "Jubilee Beer," for which Munich's six normally competing breweries joined forces in a historic beer truce.
What started as a small local festival two decades ago has become a massive international event featuring about a dozen cavernous beer tents, some seating more than 10,000 singing, inebriated people at a time.

An estimated 6 million visitors attend Oktoberfest each year, consuming about 1.6 million gallons of beer and 500,00 chickens at the festival every year.

Oktoberfest is a 16–18 day festival held annually in Germany, running from late September to the first weekend in October. It is one of the most famous events in Germany and is the world's largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world also hold , modeled after the Munich event.
Oktoberfest is not famous only due to huge german beer pints and the sausages.

As the atmosphere get’s hoter, people starts losing their clothes. Until now, for those who didn’t get to the german festival in flash and bones, pictures from the fest have been the only way to see what’s really happening there.
But the organizers decided this year to ban the publication of any photos of “sexual” nature during the “holiday”.
The measure sparked controversy in Germany where the media representatives say it is their right to submit pictures who represent the real atmosphere of the event.

Oktoberfest

Contrary to popular belief, THE Oktoberfest festival in Munich begins in late September. This year, the two week festival begins Saturday September 20 and runs through October 5.
The most authentic annual Oktoberfest celebration around here takes place annually at the Brick Store Pub. Saturday October 4 is the date this year and I have heard that up to 5 different Oktoberfest-style biers will be flowing into those 1 liter mugs! Throw in some lederhosen, boot chugging, and delicious wurst & cheeses, this is a can't miss event. Some of the lads pictured above will be pumping up the crowd with German song around Noon, so get there early.

Here in the greater Decatur area, there is a lot of beer hoppenings going on over the next month.

You can now only buy tickets on-line for this event on Saturday October 18. Kingsized, Donna Hopkins, and American Bang will be on-stage throughout the day which will be a nice change from the speed metal band from last year, Thorn of Donkey.

Now Open- The Grange Public House

The Grange Public House is now open on 426 West Ponce de Leon Ave, in the former Angel spot by the Decatur post office. I have read good things about this Irish pub, and the draft list looks pretty good (for an Irish bar)

Finishing up...

There is a new beer festival called Hotoberfest hoppening on Saturday October 4th in Glenwood Park.

And I have been meaning to check out Little 5 Points newest beer pub, The Porter. There was a nice review in the AJC last week, and hopefully some fresh hop breath can be blown through L5P now...
